Events for 2001

January 10, Bujanovac

Princess Elizabeth delivered medical equipment and supplies to the hospital in Bujanovac.  The transportation helicopter was courtesy of the military and JAT.

 

March 27,  Launch party for the children's book “Apple and the Butterfly” written by Princess Elizabeth, in the Town Hall of Belgrade; the old Royal Palace. The publishing house is called Zlatna Knjiga.

 

April 7,  Belgrade, Town Hall

Princess Elizabeth attended a concert in honor of her birthday on the occasion of reviving back her passport, nationality and identity card.  All these were illegally removed by the communists in 1947

 

Easter, Princess Elizabeth’s son Nicholas and his wife Stephanie came to came to Belgrade for a three day visit.

 

April 19, Princess Elizabeth attended a huge book promotion for her children's book "Apple and the Butterfly" in Nis.  Over one thousand people were in the auditorium.

 

May,  On Princess Elizabeth’s initiative, a family meeting was arranged in London. Cousin Prince Alexander agreed that the time had come for all the family to return to the country and homeland.  Should the property be returned for the family to use, we agreed that all family members would be welcome in the royal palaces in Dedinje, Belgrade.

 

June 5, Princess Elizabeth paid a visit to Velika Plana, where Karageorge was killed and lit a candle.

 

June 9, Princess Elizabeth attended a picture auction at the Town Hall in Belgrade to raise money for an outpatient’s hospital in Pinosava organized by Sveti Andrej Prvozvani Foundation, (Saint Andrew, first named).

 

June 13th,  Princess Elizabeth filmed a TV program for U-Info on the streets of Belgrade.  

 

June 14, Princess Elizabeth attended a Ballantines’ fund raiser for the Center for Children in need, in Franca Rozmana Street that she helped to fund, at the Terasa restaurant, Belgrade.

 

June 15th, Princess Elizabeth was a guest of honor at the opening of Dragisa Misovic Hospital which was rebuilt after the bombing, by the Finns and Swiss.  In the evening, Princess Elizabeth went to the Assembly Hall of the Borough of Vozdovac where she was presented with some paintings by local artists of the Kosovka Gallery.

 

June 16th,  The theatre of Belgrade and the actress Vesna Cipcic gave a benefit performance for Princess Elizabeth’s Foundation.

 

June 19, Princess Elizabeth attended the "Apple and Butterfly" book promotion in Novi Sad.

 

July 8, Oplenac, Princess Elizabeth attended the memorial service for cousin Prince Tomislav, who died one year ago.

 

July 14, Princess Elizabeth visited Mionica, Struganik and Spa Vrujci during the celebration of Vojvoda Misic's days.

 

July 15,  Princess Elizabeth visited Cvetojevac to celebrate the third year of the existence of the outpatients’ clinic founded by St. Andrej Provozvani.

 

July 17, By the order of the Federal Government, acting Premier Zoran Zizic presented to the family Karadjordjevic the decision of the Federal Government to return the complex in Dedinje, which includes the buildings of Beli Dvor, Dedinje's Dvor (Old Royal Palace) and accompanying buildings, to be used by all of the family members. At the ceremony in the Federal Building were present Prince Alexander and his wife Katharine and Princess Elizabeth 

 

July 18, After a press conference in the Palace in Dedinje Princess Elizabeth is  told by Prince Alexander to leave the property at once and that she may not live on the property.

 

July 28th, Princess Elizabeth visited the village of Dornji Dubac to promote handicrafts.

 

August 2nd, Princess Elizabeth  visited Dubrovnik and Kotor in Montenegro.

 

August 23, Princess Elizabeth as honorary chairman, opened the International Children’s Ecological Theatre Festival in Backa Palanka. 

 

 

August 25  Princess Elizabeth as the Honorary President of Ilustrovana Politika, a weekly magazine, presented a golden trumpet to the winner of the trumpet festival at Guca, where there were 300.000 visitors.

 

August 30, Princess Elizabeth visited Augustin Vrhovsek who used to work in the garden at Beli Dvor as a horticulturist, when she was a child. She sat in his garden and they exchanged stories together.

 

September 1st, Princess Elizabeth went to Nocaji, as Honorary Chairman of the Vojvoda Cupic’ days celebration.

 

September 2nd, Princess Elizabeth visited the Russian Church in Gornji Adrovac, near Alexinac, in comemoration of the death of Nikolai Rajevski.  He was celebrated as Count Vronsky in Ana Karenina.

 

September 5, Princess Elizabeth paid a year's tuition for a very gifted violin student, Rada to continue her studies with her special teacher.  Later that day, she went to visit the blood center of Serbia to appeal for donors.

 

 

September 8, Princess Elizabeth was the honorary guest in Kostunici for the celebration  of “Dan Slive”, or our “Plum Days” in Kostunici....

 

September 9, Princess Elizabeth attended a children's canoeing event in Ada Ciganlija.

 

September 12, Princess Elizabeth made a formal request to Prince Alexander to be allowed to live in a couple of rooms in Beli Dvor where she was born.  She was christened in the chapel of the Dedinje Palace and my Kums were Patriarch Varnava and Prince Nicholas of Greece, my maternal grandfather. He replied in the negative and said I should go and complain to the Federal Government if I did not agree.

 

September 16,  Princess Elizabeth  was the patron of the icon exhibition organized by Sveti Andrej Prvozvani Foundation (St Andrew) in the museum konak Knjegina Ljubica in Belgrade, for the benefit of their foundation.  This lasted for three weeks.

 

September 19,  Princess Elizabeth went to the Federal Palace to meet some Federal officials.  Because she was not to have access to property in Dedinje, which had been given to all the members of the Karageorgevic family to use, she requested the Government give her a house for her use until the law of de-nationalisation should take place.  At this time she would claim back her properties.

 

September 21,  Princess Elizabeth filmed a spot for RTS, Serbian television for a campaign about how to respect the municipality and the environment.

 

September 22,  Princess Elizabeth was a guest at the botanical gardens to promote ecology. 

 

September 25,  Princess Elizabeth drove to Kragujevac to deliver some equipment and medicine to the Clinical Center. Also some medicines for the outpatients’ clinic in Cvetojevac. She also visited a musical center in Kragujevac and heard some great performances by the students.

 

September 27, Princess Elizabeth was present at a conference on ecology and made a short address.  After this, she attended the International Conference on orthodoxy, with Bishops from around the world. 

In the evening, the Princess Elizabeth Foundation organised a benefit concert in the Sava Center Hall in Belgrade attended by 4000 people  The musicians were Natasha Veljkovic, piano, Ksenija Jankovic, cello Alexandar Janicek, violin, Austria and the Symphonic Orchestra of RTS of Belgrade, the conductor was Lefifi from Vietnam. They were happy for the proceeds to go to her Foundation  The Princess expressed her deep appreciation.  The Princess Elizabeth Foundation donated all of the proceeds to the Center for Children in Need in Belgrade in Franca Rozmana Street.

 

September 28,  Princess Elizabeth presented ecological awards to the children with the best projects at the Yugo-petrol building. 

 

September, 29,  Princess Elizabeth organized a garden party for all the inhabitants of the buildings around the communal garden where they lived to bring them together and to improve neighbourly relations.  Everybody brought something to eat and drink and had a good time.

 

October 4, Princess Elizabeth as the honorary chairman for the annual event of “Radost Evrope” or the “Joy of Europe International,” opened the event and addressed 4000 people at the Sava Center.  The participants represented about 20 countries.

 

October 10,  Princess Elizabeth pays an official visit to Cukarica municipality as an honorary guest, was received by the mayor and spent the day visiting the borough.

 

October 11,  Princess Elizabeth made an address at the opening of the conference on ecology under the auspices of “Danube, river of cooperation”.

 

October 13,  Princess Elizabeth as honorary chairman attended the Cosmetic show at Hotel Yugoslavia

 

October 17,  Princess Elizabeth  Book promotion of “Apple and the Butterfly” in Backa Palanka. Lunch at Karageorgevo, an estate where there is a huge horse breeding stable and racetrack.

 

October 18,  Princess Elizabeth visited President Kostunica to discuss her housing situation.

 

October 19, Princess Elizabeth went to Zrenjanin for a promotion for “Apple and the Butterfly”  She visited a home for semi retarded children. At each book promotion, 25% of all proceeds goes to the local kindergarten or hospital.

 

October 21, Princess Elizabeth went to Kragujevac to attend a memorial service and to lay a wreath for the 7000 children who were slaughtered during the second world war by the Germans.

 

October 24, Princess Elizabeth visited Ravna Gora to lay a wreath in memory of Draza Mihajlovic.  Later that day, she was received by the mayor of Gornji Milanovac.

 

October 25,  Princess Elizabeth attends a book promotion in Topola for “Apple and Butterfly” and was received by the mayor.

 

October 27,  Princess Elizabeth Foundation helped to organize an auction

at the Diplomatic Club of Belgrade of paintings and handicrafts made by children with disabilities and refugee children.  The proceeds went to the Center for Children in Need in Franca Rozmana.

 

October 29,  Princess Elizabeth went to Cacak for a book promotion of “Apple and Butterfly” and was received by the mayor.. 

 

November 4,  Princess Elizabeth was the honorary chairman of the first folk dancing and music festival in Cacak

 

November 5,  Princess Elizabeth was the honorary chairman at the UNICEF and Soka Gakai International Children's painting exibition in Belgrade.

 

November 7,  Princess Elizabeth attended a promotion for children's playgrounds at the Town Hall.

 

December 1,  Princess Elizabeth was made the patron of the Municipality of the Vozdovac Days which are two weeks of celebrations, festivities, sports’ events, art shows, exhibitions, cultural events, theatre performances, concerts etc.  Vozdovac was named after the Princess’ great grandfather Karadjordje.

 

December 3,  Princess Elizabeth went to Mionica to a book promotion for the “Apple and the Butterfly”. 

 

December 4,  Princess Elizabeth went to visit Majka i dete (Mother and Child Institute)

with the Chilean Ambassador.

 

December 5th,  Princess Elizabeth was the honorary guest of the municipality of Zemun where  she visited the Town Hall and a hospital and presented the children’s ward with an icon of Saint Sava.

 

December 7,  Princess Elizabeth went to Leskovac for a promotion of “Apple and the Butterfly”. 

 

December 8,  Princess Elizabeth gave an interview for Republika Srpska.

 

December 10,  Princess Elizabeth went to a book promotion for “Apple and Butterfly” in Zitiste.

 

December 11, Princess Eizabeth went to a press conference in the Town Hall of Vozdovac where she decided to celebrate her Slava of Sveti Andrej First named,in the Hotel “M” because she is the patron of Vozdovac days and the patron of the Sveti Andrej Foundation.

 

December 13,  Princess Eizabeth celebrated her Slava with the people of Vozdovac at the Hotel.”.  This was attended by 500 people and more than 20 ambassadors. 

 

December 17,  Princess Elizabeth visited the dental University of Belgrade and the hospital of the muncipality of Zvezdara where she presented them with medical supplies and equipment in the name of the Sveti Andrej First named Foundation.

 

December 18,  Princess Elizabeth went to Kragujevac to a book promotion for “Apple and Butterfly”

 

December 20,  Princess Elizabeth visited Zvezdara Hospital to present them with supplies from the Serbian-Swedish Foundation “Golub”.  Then she went to a hospital for children with cerebral palsy to a concert and in the afternoon the Princess went to a book promotion in Mladenovac for the “Apple and Butterfly”.

 

December 28,  Princess Elizabeth went to Sombor for a book promotion of “Apple and Butterfly”.

 

Princess Elizabeth Foundation contributed $1,500 to enable the World Rehabilitation Fund, Inc. to provide medical rehabilitation materials to the Miroslav Zotovic Rehabilitation Center in Banja Luka, Srpska.  This shipment, valued at over $30,000 in donated supplies for artificial limbs and orthopedic braces arrived in Banja Luka in December 2001.
